3RD SUNDAY OF ADVENT (YEAR A)
With the invitation to rejoice, the Church announces that the coming of the Lord is already near, and he comes not as a vengeful judge but as a loving saviour, says Archbishop Valerian Okeke. He reminds us that our preparation immerses us in a deeper experience of the Messianic presence characterised by fruitfulness, graciousness, peace, and glory. This preparation has to recognise the four-fold coming of Christ: coming in history (flesh), coming in mystery (sacraments), coming to each at death, and his ultimate coming in glory. He notes that Advent is properly lived in the knowledge that the reign of God is a promise for tomorrow and a task for today. Just as Christ's deeds validate his presence, the Archbishop charges us to be agents of goodness and prays that as we prepare to welcome the loving saviour, we experience his glory in our lives, Amen.
